< Alexis Jacques Bespaloff, noted wine critic and writer, died on April 22 in Las Cruces, N.M., after a long battle with cancer. He was 71. Bespaloff, who was born in Romania, became one of America's most important wine writers in the 1970s, serving as wine critic for New York magazine for more than two decades.
