Sunglasses, flip-flops and a cooler full of bologna sandwiches were just about all you needed to visit Laguna Beach, Calif., in the old days. In its earlier heyday, Laguna was a middle-class riviera, a laid-back, funky old artists' colony with front-row seats on the changing tide.
