Once a year, an old friend and I revisit a favorite topic—how the U.S. wine market has matured, from the moments of glory right down to some of the quirkier labels that have shaped our wine culture. Our lighthearted banter helps link the past to the present, and as one of my professors used to say about history, if it could have happened any other way, it would have.
