A preview of the vintage finds outstanding whites and very good reds

The Côte d'Or was blanketed in snow during my semi-annual visit to Burgundy in January. It was the first time I had seen the vines frozen and the air so brisk and clear. Despite the cold weather, the general mood of the growers was warm, in part because they were excited about the excellent potential of the newly fermented 2005s.
