There was a time when the Mondavis were the first family of California wine, with a name and reputation second to none. Today the Robert Mondavi family finds itself in an odd position. Once the proud owners of the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, and the global corporate empire that grew from it, they no longer own their namesake winery.
