Zinfandel lovers need to have some gambler's bravado, given the wide swings in quality that are all too common with California's quintessential variety. Fortunately, in the very good 2002 vintage (86 points on the Wine Spectator 100-point scale), the odds for finding flavorful, high quality wines are good.
