Bordeaux makes some of the greatest wines in the world. Benchmarks for their respective types, Cheval-Blanc, Latour, Lafite, Haut-Brion, Margaux, Pétrus, Yquem and others are the reference point for judging any great wine, whether a Merlot from Tuscany or a Cabernet Sauvignon from California.
