
Lee Martinelli Sr. was 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean, walking through Marcassin Vineyard with winemaker John Wetlaufer, when he pointed to a patch of land he owned in the coastal hills nearby. Wetlaufer was impressed, telling Martinelli it would make a great vineyard, but Martinelli brushed him off, saying, "No, that's where I hunt!" It has been 10 or 12 years, but Julie Martinelli still loves telling that story about her father.
