
On a crisp, chilly Saturday morning in January of 1990, a line of Cabernet lovers began to form in front of the Heitz Cellar tasting room, south of St. Helena in the heart of Napa Valley. Collectors from as far away as Los Angeles had driven through the night or climbed out of bed early to camp out on the doorstep of the tasting room, eagerly awaiting the first sale of the acclaimed 1985 Heitz Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
