There are times when Brian Loring finds himself racing to make ends meet, juggling work as a software engineer with a career as an aspiring winemaker. "Today it was a breeze," he says of his 200-mile round-trip commute through the maze of freeways that connects his home in Anaheim Hills in Southern California to Buellton in Santa Ynez Valley, 40 miles north of Santa Barbara.
