What a fun ride it has been. Writing this guest blog for Wine Spectator Online has been the perfect chance for me to contemplate my roots and further explore my fascination with the world of food and wine.
Writing about my mentors allowed me to pay tribute to the crucible of my early days with Charlie Trotter, Daniel Boulud and Joachim Splichal. In different ways, they are each geniuses working at their highest levels.
Writing about my inspirations helped me to acknowledge the things, big and small, that truly motivate me in my work, from music to surfing to my team's incredible dedication. I find things every day that literally rock my world. My other passion is traveling. It's crucial for me to be able to go to places like Paris and Japan. I also seek out more obscure destinations that challenge the mind and spirit. To me, traveling ties us together through the universal language of food.
At the core of these memories is my love of food and wine, and my desire to share that with others. I'm excited by the promise of great products that seem to sing whenever I put them together in unexpected ways. I aspire to honor those materials through my work, since they are the very things that inspire and feed us every day.
