I’m seldom grumpy, but today I am. One reason is today is tax day, as in my appointment with my accountant. I don’t mind paying taxes, since it’s the price we pay for living in this great country. But I hate all the paperwork and receipts, and I have serious misgivings about how our tax dollars are spent. But I’ll leave it at that.
By 4 p.m., when my sit-down with my tax man Greg is over and my pile of paperwork is out of my hands and in his, I should feel better.
My other source of irritability is that it’s crunch time for our Chardonnay report. This year, for some reason, it’s been a little bit tougher. I typically approach all my tastings with a clear head, fresh palate and positive attitude, since I’m hoping to find lots of good wines to recommend.
I think I’m close to the mid-way mark of tasting some 500 Chardonnays, which probably sounds like great fun if you’ve never done it before. But after 25 or so years of this routine – and lots of cookie-cutter versions of one style or another --this year it is, well, rather taxing. There, I said it and already I feel better.
