Late Monday night in Chicago—after dinner at Japonais, which was excellent (especially the sushi entrées)—I checked into my room and flipped on the TV. I pushed a few buttons and ended up watching Extreme Bull Riding, on ESPN (I think), for a few minutes.
Think it’s hard getting a 90-point rating in wine? Spend a few minutes watching Extreme Bull Riding. Riders are scored on several criteria, including how long (and whether) they stay on the bull, and there were some nasty rides and spills.
Most of the cowboys limped away with scores in the 70s, while the bulls were still bucking and thrashing. A few mustered 80-point ratings, but none of the guys earned a 90.
Made wine ratings look pretty generous …
