I am looking at my hands this morning after blind tasting about 40 wines from the Right Bank at my hotel Les Sources de Caudalie. My fingers on my right hand, with which I hold my Riedel tasting glass, are stained purple. The hands of my tasting coordinator Jo Cooke are also stained from opening bottles. “This is the messiest vintage that I can remember,” he said. “The last time my hands were black like this was the 1998 vintage for the Right Bank.”
And 1998 was a great one indeed for Pomerol and St. Emilion.
Sometimes your hands tell it all…
