Me having lunch with Bruno Borie, owner of Ducru-Beaucaillou, in his kitchen and discussing the potentially outrageous demand and high prices for 2005 Bordeaux.
“I guess prices are going to be high for 2005,” I said.
“We are not going to cry over that if they are,” he said. “But you have to make the best wine possible so that when the consumer pulls the cork the wine is fabulous. He or she needs to receive more [in quality wine] than the money they pay for.”
I couldn’t agree more. And the 2005 Ducru should live up to Borie’s promise. It’s excellent.
