Tasting Beat: Austria, Greece, Portugal (table wines), Southern France
A native of the San Francisco Bay area, I was introduced to wine as a teenager while living and working in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. My first job after college was as a reporter and then editor of the St. Helena Star, a weekly newspaper published in Napa Valley. In my four years in Napa, I gained firsthand knowledge of its many wines and winemakers.
I joined Wine Spectator in 1988 and am now managing editor, overseeing the day-to-day production of the magazine in the New York headquarters. As a taster, my beats cover Austria; the south of France, including the Languedoc region; the table wines of Portugal; and the emerging wines of Greece. I am also the lead writer on value-priced wines, and produce annual cover stories and major feature packages on the topic.
