Betting on Older Vintage Price Appreciation

The extraodinary prices for 2009 Bordeaux futures will have an influence on the price of older classic vintages
Posted: Jun 28, 2010 12:00pm ET

I have read the comments on my June 21 blog on Bordeaux's red-hot 2009 futures campaign, and most of them are critical of the high prices. But people keep buying! Prices for the top wines seem way too expensive and, personally, I am not buying. But be warned. Expect prices for older vintages for the top names to increase in the near future due to the extremely high prices of the 2009s.

Fast and Furious 2009 First-Growths

Futures prices for 2009 Bordeaux first-growths are starting to be revealed

The 2009 Bordeaux futures market is at full speed at the moment, with key wine merchants around the world wrestling to supply enough wine to their key customers. The top wines such as the first-growths, including Lafite and Mouton, which each has released its ex-cellar price to wine merchants, are the most expensive young wines ever to be offered to the world, and will carry four-digit price tags.

Making a Case for Serious Organic Winemaking

Comparing prices for 2009 Bordeaux futures versus those for what's available in bottle shows the 2009s might not be so outrageous after all
Posted: Jun 8, 2010 12:00pm ET

There is so much noise out there on 2009 Bordeaux. I took the liberty of looking online at prices in one of my hometown wine shops, Wally's Wine & Spirits in Los Angeles, and I pretended that I walked in today with some money in my pocket to buy some 2009 Bordeaux futures. But I would look at what's available in bottle as well.

Mellow Thoughts on 2009 Bordeaux

Putting to rest the anxiety over 2009 Bordeaux prices
Posted: Jun 4, 2010 12:00pm ET

I am surprised with the amount of anxiety some of my friends are having with 2009 Bordeaux futures. Wine merchants and collectors alike seem to be freaking out a little over the whole thing even though the wines from most of the top estates have not been released on the market. But there will be good values to be found among 2009 Bordeaux.
