
Usually, growers working their steep Riesling vineyards in Germany’s Mosel Valley are dealing with wild boars come harvest time. If regional politicians have their way, the growers will soon be saddled with pork of a different kind.
Becky Wasserman of Le Serbet is in New York this week for a series of events promoting Burgundy. Some of you may know Wasserman as a champion of small growers from the region. Over the years she has introduced the wines of Michel Lafarge, Dominique Lafon , Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier , Alain Burguet and Denis Bachelet to thousands of Burgundy lover here in the United States.
Nik Weis, owner of St.-Urbans-Hof in Germany’s Mosel Valley, was in New York last week. It was an opportunity to taste a range of his 2008 Rieslings, some of which are now available in the United States.
After a two-year hiatus from the wine industry, Donald Ziraldo, formerly of Inniskillin Wines in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula, is back in business with an ice wine. "There's just too much in the industry that kind of sucks you back in again," he said.
About a month ago, I had the opportunity to taste the Jura wines of Domaine Berthet-Bondet. I have to confess I have only tried a few Jura wines over the years. This past Monday in New York, a group of 20 Jura producers showcased their wines.
