Welcome to the New Wine Spectator Online
Posted: Wednesday, October 20, 2004
When we launched Wine Spectator Online in 1996, the Web was still in its infancy. Since then, people have responded with enthusiasm, and today Wine Spectator Online is by far the Internet’s most popular site for wine. Page views exceed 4 million per month, with millions of visitors annually from around the world.
Now we are taking another bold step. Wine Spectator Online has been completely revamped. Our new site is loaded with fresh, exclusive features. And it’s much easier to navigate.
Every single story on our home page is original to the Web site. None of the content we post daily has been previously published in Wine Spectator magazine or any other source. However, for handy reference, you can find the contents of back issues of Wine Spectator magazine in our online archives.
You’ll enjoy a lively mix of breaking news, in-depth analysis and exclusive commentary on a wide range of interesting and provocative topics. Contributors will include our senior editors, plus celebrated and accomplished people from all walks of life.
You’ll find more wine information than ever before. Many wine reviews will be posted here before they appear in Wine Spectator magazine. Every day, we’ll review exciting new wines, one in each of three different price categories.
Importantly, two new and valuable newsletters will be exclusively available here. Wine Spectator Advance will include the best new wines from upcoming issues of Wine Spectator magazine. The biweekly Wine Spectator Insider will feature highly rated, limited-production new releases from our editors’ latest tastings. These Internet newsletters will help you get the jump on the very best wines in the marketplace.
This will be the only place where you can search Wine Spectator’s entire database of more than 130,000 wine reviews. You can also create a Personal Wine List to keep track of your own collection.
If you are a winemaker, sommelier, wine salesman, chef or restaurateur—or simply want to keep abreast of the exciting business of wine and food—our new Trade News section is the source for you. Check in daily for comprehensive, up-to-date coverage of the news and trends of this growing and diverse industry.
In order to support this new approach, we have decided to charge a subscription fee to use the site. We think it is a fair price for so much information. If you are already a Full Access subscriber to Wine Spectator Online, all of these new services are yours at no extra charge. We are also offering magazine subscribers an introductory opportunity to become Online members for half price. (For more details on subscribing, please click here.)
Please note, however, that much information remains accessible free of charge. You can browse our Dining Guide, a searchable directory of more than 3,500 restaurants worldwide that hold Wine Spectator awards for their wine lists. You can join in the discussions about wine, dining and travel on our Forums. You can explore our Wine School, or check out the calendar of events.
The world of wine is changing rapidly. The new Wine Spectator Online will keep you at the forefront. We’re excited about this new direction. We hope you will join us.
Sincerely,
Marvin R. Shanken
