On Oct. 1, bidding opened for the month-long Jimmy's Gems Online Auction. Proceeds benefit the Jimmy Mancbach Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which funds opportunities for aspiring wine professionals to intern during harvest at some of the top wineries in the world.
Mancbach, director of fine wines at Southern Wine & Spirits, died in January at the age of 56. He was well-known for his commitment to promoting California wine and for encouraging young people in the wine industry.
Mancbach's extensive network of friends in the wine community donated unique lots for the auction, including cuvées from Loring and Au Bon Climat that were blended especially for Mancbach, a wide selection of large-format bottles, and dinners from celebrity chefs including Emeril Lagasse and Kerry Simon. In total, more than 75 wineries have contributed more than 6,000 bottles for the auction.
