Health Q&A: Which Wines Does Roger Corder Recommend?

Q: In his interview, Roger Corder stated that the best red wines for reducing heart disease would be younger wines with longer extraction times, wines with firmer tannins, but I cannot find any of the wines he mentioned. Can you suggest some alternatives? -- Dwight
A: Corder is based in England, so many of his preferred wines may not be as widely available in the United States. In terms of wines made in the United States, Corder recommends “trying Cabernet Sauvignons from Washington, and also from higher altitude vineyards around the Napa Valley, which are often made with long extraction times and have firmer tannins." Corder also suggests asking wine merchants for wines with more robust tannin structures on their list. "This should be a good starting point for finding the type of wines I favor," Corder added.
