California City Reverses Golf Course Smoking Ban

In a reversal that bucks the recent trend of California city councils, the governing body of Thousand Oaks has determined that it’s OK to putt and puff on the city’s own golf course.
The council of the affluent city in Ventura County, one of the state’s most affluent areas between Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara, voted 4 to 1 to allow smoking in playing areas at the Los Robles Golf Course. The vote reverses part of a decision made earlier in July to regulate smoking in public areas and ban it on the golf course, which was lumped in with playgrounds.
The change came about when the council revised the definition of what constitutes a playground. Playgrounds continue to have a ban in effect within 25 feet of their boundaries.
Additionally, the change by the council allows restaurants that want to allow smoking in outdoor patio areas to seek a permit from the city.
