Xikar Havana Collection

Posted: Wednesday, August 15, 2007

By Michael Moretti

Xikar's limited-edition Havana Collection Xi3 cutter celebrates the tradition of handcraftsmanship in cigars and cigar accessories.

The cutter is in the familiar patented Xi3 teardrop shape that has become something of an icon in the industry, but the handles on the Havana Collection pieces are what define them. Vibrant in color varieties that include yellow, red, blue and green, the handles are fashioned by an artist based in Paris out of French maple wood. He first hand-paints the wood, then uses tweezers to arrange actual cigar bands in patterns on it. The collage is reminiscent of motifs seen on Havana cigar box art. Following the detailing with paint and bands, the handles are sealed in several coats of clear varnish and polished.

The Havana Collection cutters are numbered and handsomely presented in a leather-upholstered box, which along with the Xi3 contains a protective stingray sheath shaped to fit the cutter. The entire package has a suggested retail price of $299.99.
