The Credo Synchro Cigar Cutter
Posted: Monday, January 10, 2005
By Michael Moretti
The new Synchro Cigar Cutter from Credo borrows age-old cutter designs and ideas from the medical world to deliver a new kind of cigar slicer.
It is a combination of a scissors and a guillotine cutter. The stainless steel blades are enclosed like a guillotine but operate like a scissors. They are spring-loaded and synchronized to meet in the middle at the same time in order to avoid askew slices, and instead of pinching the cigar on either side of the cap, the blade handles come together in a scissors motion and lock with a "surgical hook enclosure." The locking mechanism is similar to that seen in surgical instruments. At first, it can be difficult to figure out how to unlock, but a slight push on the loops in opposite directions pops the shears open.
The fit is very secure and will not come undone without applied pressure, making the cutter safe to stow away in a pocket or bag.
The Synchro Cutter is available in a variety of steel facings for $100 or in a variety of wood facings for $125. Not on shelves yet, it is scheduled to go to retail tobacconists nationwide on November 1. For more information, call Arango Cigar at 1-800-22-CIGAR.
