Tip of the Week

Q: I recently added distilled water to my humidifier, and almost immediately the relative humidity jumped to over 80 percent. It has been several days now and I haven't been able to get it back down to normal. What can I do?

A: Try special solution and cedar strips.

If your hygrometer is reading 80 percent or higher after refilling your humidifier, it's because the humidity was discharged all at once. There are two ways to remedy the situation. First, give your humidifier a shot of special solution. The special solution will cling to the sponge inside the humidifier, controlling the output of humidity and regulating it evenly throughout your humidor. Second, place any extra cedar strips from boxes you've purchased inside your humidor. The cedar strips will work to absorb the excess humidity while returning the inside of your box to the desired relative humidity.
