Cuba's Compay Montecristo Humidor

Posted: Tuesday, April 29, 2003

By David Savona

Habanos S.A. has introduced the Montecristo Compay 95th Anniversary Humidor, a limited-edition work dedicated to the 95th birthday of Cuba's most famous musician.

Each humidor comes packed with 95 cigars: 55 Montecristo No. 4s, the ubiquitous petit coronas that are the best-selling Cuban cigars in the world, and 40 Montecristo Salomones No. 2s, rare, fat figurados. Keeping with the "95" theme, only 95 of the humidors will be sold.

Each cigar has a special band with the face of Segundo, similar to the ones on the Montecristo No. 3s presented to Segundo in January 2001. For details on that occasion, see European Editor James Suckling’s Havana Corner.

Sale of the humidors will help a good cause -- Habanos said it will dedicate 20 percent of the proceeds to art schools in Cuba.

The cigars are on sale at Casa del Habanos. In Cuba, they retail for $2,000.
